st. louis

I arrived with my family at Erik & Joy's in the wee hours of the morning Thanksgiving Day. The Oldsmobile we'd begun the trip in died crossing Monteagle, and we ended up taking our big blue van. When I awoke there had commenced a great cooking, which continued until nearly 3pm, when we sat down to a regular feast.

The spread of food- turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing/dressing, turnips, creamed onions, corn pudding, carrots & broccoli, asparagus, rolls, frozen fruit salad, real cranberry sauce, canned cranberry sauce... well, needless to say, the spread could not have possibly come from the small kitchen they have in their one bedroom apartment. But under the masterful direction of Joy as she guided our labors, six people worked to provide a feast worthy of high thanksgiving. Oh, and dare I mention the five pies that followed.

I'll try to write more tonight--having wet your appetite--my lunch break is over, so I must resume work.
