Good Morning, Orion Seafood

Yeah, I get to say that about a hundred or so times a day. Then I switch over to Good Afternoon. Gets a bit repetitive, but I've had worse job assigments. They got me started doing faxes today too. It really boggles my mind just how much paper a place like this uses up, though I've heard some law firms go through over a million sheets a day. On average I'd say at least 3 reams a day.

Katie and I saw Troy over the weekend. Honestly, I enjoyed it but couldn't help feeling disappointed. I've looked forward to this movie for quite some time and I really really wish they could have found someone better to direct this thing. The idea that Wolfgang Petersen (of Air Force One and The Perfect Storm fame) could pull something like this off seems rather ludicrous to me. With a cast like that great things could have been done.

Anyways, to recap... Brad Pitt was ripped...Hector's death (and the subsequent conversation between Achilles and Priam) was the best part...Wolfgang Petersen needs to stick to submarine movies...Orlando Bloom cannot act. For a visual summary, check this out.

I'm now doing hardcore research into buying a car when I get back in August. I'd really really love to be able to get a Jetta/Passat or Civic/Accord, but it all just depends on how much money I can make and save this summer and how stingy the dealers want to be in Chatty this fall. Basically I will settle for anything which runs and has a standard transmission...but I like to shoot high. I recently purchased an 80 gig hard drive for $50 from Best Buy. This increases my space by about 400% and makes me happy.

Anyways...we're going to watch Big Fish again tonight. Katie's fam hasn't seen it yet. If any of my future housemates read this make sure you drop me a line with current happenings at the place.

Live from New Hampshire

First off, I love it up here. I'd forgotten that outisde of the south it doesn't get hot until July. I came into work this morning and it was 59 degrees out there. Beautiful.

Second, I got a job the day after I arrived here in Exeter. Katie, her brother Sam and I all went and applied at this temp agency place called Adecco and they had jobs for us starting immediately. Very nice. Currently I'm working as a receptionist/office assistant person for Orion Seafood International. Its nice. I get my own desk, computer, etc etc. Basically, I sit here, answer phones, direct calls to appropriate people, and then read and surf the web. I've read two John Grisham novels this week already. And I'm being paid $11/hour to do it. The only catch is that it might not last past this week. I dunno, my Adecco guy (who also happens to be a flaming homosexual...more on that later) said that they need someone for the summer, but I was signed up for one week only. I'm hearing two versions at this point and they obviously need someone...who knows. I'm hoping it will work out because its a cushy job and I like the pay too.

Not much else happening at this point. I wake up around 6:30 every morning so I can make it into work on time. I get home at 5:30 or so and usually am so zonked that I can barely make it through the nightly Red Sox game. It scares me that I'm feeling the need to be in bed by 10 at night. Oh well, good practice for my 8am Shakespeare class next semester.

I'll blog more later...the phones are ringing.

The children sang...

And there was much rejoicing, for finals had ended. I just finished up my Linguistics final about 5 minutes ago. I doubt I aced it but I put up a good fight for a high B, at least I think so...syntax can be tricky at times.

So, what am I going to do with my newfound freedom? I fully intend to collapse on my rust-stained fireguard mattress (courtesy of Covenant College) and sleep until it is no longer light outside. Then, before I start packing to move out, I plan on going out to the hang gliding bluff and smoking as many cancer sticks as I can manage before passing out. Hopefully I can get a few people to join me in that endeavour.

And now, before I fall asleep here on this desk, I will sign off until much later.

Its that time again

Well, I made it through hell-Tuesday. I deserve to be failed for the second essay question I wrote on my American Lit test, but oh well. Its over and done with, and I'm pretty sure I passed. I sent in my Journalism essay this morning and that leave me with Linguistics. I'll probably cram a bit tonight and then throw in a few more hours tomorrow.

Played a really good game of Starcraft with Jared, Timmy, and Matt this afternoon. Quite satisfying...especially since I won. Matty tried to sneak a second race into the picture, but I caught on just in time and destroyed all his cruisers. Yeah...if you didn't catch that last bit don't worry.

Basically, I am so ready to get out of here. I need a break from this place. It really starts getting to me this time of year. Let's recount the actions of the last month:

-Matt's RA-ship is threatened by Student Development because certain Catacombians can't keep their pants on.
-Katie is blocked out of Banner because she didn't come to the first of two meetings. She even told them she would be at the second meeting (you only need to go to one) and they still wouldn't release the block. What the hell is up with Financial Planning? How is placing holds on people the only way to keep track of them?
-Katie's brother is charged $500 on top of the regular $200 deposit just so he can RESERVE HIS FINANCIAL AID. my question is, if you're getting financial aid in the first place, how do they expect you to come up with $700 for a deposit?
-oh yeah and the tuition going up yet again. I quote from the email we received: "These new rates represent less than a 6% increase for most students and compare favorably with other institutions considered within our peer group." Who is our peer group? What other school of our size and demographic category is charging over $23,000 per year? Wheaton? I strongly doubt we can consider Wheaton to be one of our peers yet. The semester I spent in Glasgow cost me between $5000-6000. That includes tuition, housing, food, travel, beer, and souveneirs. At Covenant that is the cost of one year of food and lodging. WOW.

This is just in the past month. What is up with this bullshit? Is there a single, sane thought running through the administration's heads? I doubt it. They're bleeding the life out of this place and not wasting any time doing it. I predict that within 10 years this place will be nothing but rich, stuck-up presbyterian kids who have no character whatsoever.

Sheesh...I need a break. Go check out Chris's latest post...brilliant. What I really need is a good beer and a good smoke. That would make the world much better. I'm going to try and make it to the computer lab tonight or tomorrow and upload some of the pictures from my photo class this semester. I'll try to put one up of my tattoo later on also.

One down...

Well, my first final is officially over. I just got out of my final critique for photography. Its kind of a letdown to spend over 12 hours preparing for a 15 minute critical review. I guess this gives me an idea of what movie directors must go through. I'm pretty happy with this last project though...I had a couple really nice shots. Morton, as always, focused on the things I didn't really want him to focus on. I've really loved this class and learning how to really use my camera has been awesome, but at the same time I'm kind of bugged by his methods of grading. He has a long list of things he feels are 'cliched' and if you make a print of one of those things he doesn't hesitate to let you know about it. Problem is, none of us know what things are on his list and therefore the only way to figure it out is trial and error. Thankfully I've only made the list a few times this year. In a bizarre way I'm really going to miss the red light in the darkroom. I've spent over 50 hours in there this semester...

Anyways, like Linnea I'm trying to get back into the blogging frame of mind. I'll be gone for the summer, but hopefully being away from Chatty will force me to blog more (as being in Scotland did). I'm also trying to convince a few of the 17 or more Covenant Xanga bloggers to move over to Covblogs. If Josiah will ever get off his butt and make me admin it might become easier :).

If I can make it through today I'm set... Maybe I can get some of the guys together for a Waffle House/IHOP run later this week. For now, its off to American Literature world for me.
