Well, my Giants were swallowed by the "Fish" this past weekend, so I'm forced to pick another team to root for. My choice: The Boston Red Sox. I have this very strange feeling that the curse will be lifted this year: they will overcome the Yankees, and then proceed to defeat the Cubs in the Series. Why? Their sheer desire, and also the Boston fans. The Red Sox realize what is at stake here: lifting the huge monkey off their backs, and reversing almost 3 generations of failing to achieve what every team desires, the taste of champagne at the end of October. Those fans will probably wreak serious havok if the Sox can win the whole thing, but it's a party they haven't had in way too long. Anyway, Major League Baseball needs a romantic sort of end to this season. We've heard too much about money and individual players. If it's the Red Sox and Cubs, it'll be about the teams, not the players. And that's ultimately what makes baseball so beautiful to begin with.
Posted by ken-san at October 7, 2003 04:29 PMOnce again I can breathe a sigh of relief since Barry didn't get a ring! I will continue to root for whoever plays the Yankees, because nothing satisfies me more than seeing Steinbrenner and his moneytrain lose. (That stupid Visa commercial with Jeter drives me crazy. Why do you even have to ask Derek how he can afford to live it up? You pay him 15 MILLION dollars a year!)
