good morning mr. shadow...
so nice to see you (ping!) . . . awake.
--a reference to the most excellent of movies, The Fifth Element.
Translated into peoplese I mean to say, I could not get over the weather this morning. Beyond feeling very thankful that my French test is over, and wearily paddling in a sea of SIP footnotes, that's all I'm thinking about at the moment. This picture is from the SOHO observatory, a place I enjoy visiting once in a while. They even have video similar to this picture that you can watch on their site. Very cool.
In other news, while this article in the online atlantic monthly seems a bit harsh on good ol' dubya. After reading this article, you'd think dubya did nothing but drool on himself since the day he was elected. Now, I'm not saying he didn't. But 'Miserable failure' is a hard phrase to pin on anyone, it seems to me. Particularly when you use arguments like this:
Are [Bush voters] incapable of looking behind that image and seeing the weak President who stayed away from the White House on September 11 because his Vice President said it was not safe for him to be there and whose PR people lied to cover up his failure of leadership?
Is Bush really a miserable failure?
Far be it from to stand up for President Bush . . . um . . . but I do want to say that that whole thing about being cowardly and staying away from the White House isn't so true. On September 11th, 2001 George Bush went to Omaha, Nebraska, to where my Dad worked, and I am told that he seemed cool, collected, in charge, and downright inspiring. My Dad is not easily impressed, but he was impressed by the way Bush was handling the situation. Yeah, just thought I say that, but you can call him a miserable failure if you want to.
