Jess and I saw Lost in Translation last night. It was my second time to see that movie, and I liked it even better than the first, and I really liked it the first time. People who liked Kill Bill better than Lost in Translation are heartless and responsible for the degeneration of our culture.
Lost in Translation = all heart
Kill Bill = all homage
I agree with you completely. Try seeing Kill Bill one night, the next night seeing Mystic River. You see the first, laugh, see the second, and realize that you and Quentin Terrantino are a buncha a-holes.
Sophia Coppola is a genius.

You know, a lot of folks have suggested that Quentin is a technically accomplished director, and that Sofia is an emotionally evocative director. But I think she may actually outdo him in technical ability. Consider the use of music i their films. Tarantino's music is used as an ironic counterpoint to the images. Often it is very funny. But Coppola uses pop tunes as a way to accentuate the impact of the images. Her use of "Crazy on You" in The Virgin Suicides and "Just Like Honey" in Lost in Translation are among the most memorable combinations of images and music in recent years.
