Attention all baby/kid's clothes shoppers!
Today I thought I'd kill a little time waiting for traffic to dilute itself a bit and pop around the outlet mall, which is on my way home and a convenient stopping point for bathroom break/snack purchase/very expensive fuel for my car purchase (what is it with these gas prices!?!?).
I never have had a reason to go into the little kid clothes stores before, so I thought I'd scope out the terrain a bit, seeing as I'm entering a new phase of life. I first hit Osh Kosh, because I wanted to find some jeans. Nothing. I'm not paying $12 for jeans for a little kid, even more so that didn't even snap on the inside of the legs even if that price was 50% off (no kidding!). Furget it.
Next stop, though, jackpot! The Children's Place is having incredible sales!! Racks and racks of winter things for $1.99!! I stocked up on a few sweaters/fleeces/wool pants/fleecy pants. I'm the type that never expects to find a good shopping deal (partly because I never shop and don't really like it), so I'm doubly excited that I actually found a deal. This is a national retail chain, so I imagine they have the same sale in all their stores...or at least their outlet stores. Thought I'd share the love (and my excitement).

We have a rule in our house- we never buy anything for Fuller that is more than $5. (Of course that rule doesn't seem to always apply to Auburn stuff.)Anything more than $5 can be purchased by well meaning family and friends. Thrift stores are our friends!

Good rule! It's INSANE what kids stuff can cost. I haven't done a whole lot of thrifting in NOLA, b/c they're not that great, but am looking forward to it in the Great North this summer.

yeah I get outraged at the prices, but when you think about it, the labor is the same (if not more) for little people clothes. plus there's the cute-appeal. but yeah, gifts, handmedowns and thrift stores are wonderbar.

oh yes, I'm sure you'll find awesome thrift stores in the NE. BTW where are you registered? Or what do you need?

Consignment stores offer some really great deals, and they always have a large jean selection. IMHO, the best jeans you can buy are Old Navy's--they have snaps, they're durable, etc. And if you can find an Old Navy/Gap warehouse store (not the same thing as an outlet--their prices are even cheaper, because damaged merchandise is mixed in, as well as previously worn returns), you will have hit the jackpot. At the one I go to, all kids' clothes are $4.
But really, check out consignment stores. I just got El Pistola an adorable Old Navy jean jacket for $5.
BTW, avoid the temptation to buy jeans that are obviously "girlish" or "boyish" if you are planning on having more kids. Almost all of Pistola's jeans are plain, since we know we want more kids, but those plain jeans are hard to find! The best place I found was (again) Old Navy, though they put the plain jeans in the boys' dept (so stupid).
