Wherein I embrace my inner hippy
Just kidding. About the hippy part.
I went to my first La Leche League meeting today. I won't go into all the reasons it felt great to be there--other than, duh, breastfeeding support. I'm looking forward to nursing another baby. And it was nice to be around a group of women with a similar parenting style.
E was pretty easy to breastfeed--once we finally got a good latch, which took a couple of months. I think that was the only "side effect" of his being born 4 weeks early, an underdeveloped suck reflex. I'm not sure if I would've persevered through the HOURS it took to get a good feeding if my mom hadn't been there cheering me on. It convinced me that breastfeeding needs good support. So I'm looking forward to the fellowship of LLL.

Huzzah! I go almost every month to our meeting down here, and these women are the closest thing I have to a tribe. =) Today, they gave me so much support and helpful stuff about Kent's starting daycare in a few weeks, and I left feeling so relieved, as I usually do after our meetings. Plus, today happened to be all little boys, so that was fun too. I'm glad you enjoyed your encounter!

Ah, I think we all have a little dab of inner hippy. I bet you got a good dose :) When I think of breastfeeding, I just remember pain, lots of pain!

Yeah, a good mom always helps. L.took forever to get started as well. Maybe it's a first baby. W. was the easiest and A. was the barracuda! None were easy to start with, but perseverance ALWAYS paid off. My friends couldn't believe that I wouldn't just quit with L. and A. I'm glad you're determined, too. Hang in there! (Actually, it was my favorite part of having a baby!)

I was surrounded by so many breastfeeding mamas when Josiah was born that I feel like I had my own LLL right in my own small group. I mean, who can give up when you have Lynn Perkins by your side! Have I told you about the YES nursing bra? You get them off ebay and they are like $20 after shipping. They are built well and are NOT the sports bra type. They have a subtle pretty bamboo print on them.

Thanks for the kudos, K. I can vouch for the YES bra. Katiek turned me on to them and they're by far the best package deal of any nursing bra I've tried, and I've tried lots! They're comfortable, not bad looking, easy to hook & unhook single-handed and you can't beat the price!

Hey there! I did LLL too. I got lucky and had a good little nurser in Ethan. He nusrsed for 22 months though, at which point I almost lost my sanity.
Speaking of sanity, you were going to email me something about ASL IEP goals....heh.

Which group did you go to??? I used to go to both the Center City and the Mount Airy meetings. I miss going so much!!! Maybe I could go with you sometimes even though I'm no longer breastfeeding :-(
