So I finally made a midwife appt. I decided to go to this birth center. I don't think I'll be able to have a water birth there, which was what I really searching for. I even considered a home birth for awhile, but that's complicated insurance-wise. But at this birth center they do have laboring jacuzzis in every room. Anyway, their earliest opening for appt is in December. So I'll be around 16 weeks before I finally see someone. heh, heh. Second child. It's funny, because with E they gave me an ultrasound at 8 weeks (which means I had actually seen a doctor by then). I'm a little bummed, because I'm ready to hear the heartbeat! Anyway, I'm totally excited to go the midwife route this time.

That place looks marvelous!! Looks more like a luxury resort than a birthing center. :-)

Yay, I'm so glad you found a place! The midwife experience should be really great for you, especially since you sort of know what to expect this time around. I loved hearing the heartbeat at every visit, so I get your impatience with that-- I hope it all goes swimmingly (no puns on water births there)!

I had my second in a birth center and loved it! They wouldn't allow waterbirth either, but I did labor in the tub and it helped tremendously. It was a very good experience overall though it was a bit of a drive. This time we didn't want the long drive and we also wanted a waterbirth which is why we're staying home this time around. But I hope you really like the birth center. Birth centers are wonderful!
A little off-topic, but I recently watched the movie The Business of Being Born and I bet you'd really like it. It's a documentary about the current birth culture in the US. Very interesting and definitely something I'll be getting on DVD once it's out!

I'm so excited you found midwives! My experience with midwives (first time around) versus a doctor (second one) was unbelievable! I highly recommend it! :)

Oh, I'm so happy for you!! That's what I would have chosen, if a home birth was not feasible. Laboring in a tub is **the thing** -- I did it with both boys. However, the hardest thing I ever did in my life was coming out of that tub to give birth on a hospital bed :( Hmmm, and can't you have an ultrasound somewhere else? (only if you see another doctor, I guess, right?).

Laboring in a tub of warm water is wonderful! The hubby and I actually tore out our bathtub and installed a larger tub for our homebirth. I wasn't sure if I was going to do a waterbirth or not, but I felt more comfortable giving birth on the bed.
I had the opportunity to attend a waterbirth at home a few years later and it was wonderful.

Hey! Congrats! Ugh, you're still top on my list for PEOPLE I NEED TO WRITE BACK . I just, never seem to get the time. I had my son at a birth center a month and a half ago (it's been that long already?!) and it was fantastic. I will never, ever go the hospital route again. Good choice!
