I can now freely roam the web

We finished Harry Potter 7. It was a bit slower going, because we read it out loud.

We were positively choked up at the end. It ended up WAAAY better than I thought it would. I mean I always knew there would be good closure, but it is was better, tighter than I expected.

SPOILERS:

So we totally called that Harry was a Horcrux. We knew he had to die. We weren't sure what was going to happen from there.

As Harry walked into the forest accompanied by his parents, I just cried.

Snape: he had to turn out good, but I expected it to be different, his and Harry's final meeting. I knew Harry had to forgive him in the end. If his power is love, he had to forgive Snape, even in the roundabout way the book explained.

That last vignette in the epilogue was so worth it! It put into perspective all of harry's struggles and the ultimate victory.

I loved that Bill and Fleur's daughter (as seen snogging Teddy) was named Victoire.

wow! what a great story!! I have a feeling that I'll read it out loud again a few times.

We all have finished now, too. Poor Andrew had to work all week, but he'd get home read until late, get up before 5 and go to work. I think he's very sleep deprived now!!! I was sad that Snape had to die. I thought he'd end up good, but I didn't know how she'd work it out. It was great how she did it, and that Harry could get all the ends tied up by looking in the Pensieve! Don't you just love how magic works? One can do anything. It wasn't like the memory was lost because he died, and them making eye contact in the end. oooo. And the chapter with Dumbledore. It had to be he tying all those lose ends together, and what better way than in some in between place (as all train stations and airports are!)? Sort of like Narnia's land between the worlds. I thought the ending was a bit reminiscent of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe with the sort of resurrection of Harry. You know, the triumph of the dark side with the seeming death of the willing victim, etc. I could write more, but I'll save it for my blog... *smile*

Jack and I just finished it as well, since we were taking a cue from you guys and reading it aloud. That was really fun! I had to take over during the sad parts, because Jack got kind of choked up. =)

I have to say that parents, and particularly moms, come out looking pretty good in this book especially. As a new mom, I really appreciated how Rowling wrote about Lupin, Harry's parents, the Weasleys, and the Malfoys and how much they loved their kids. I could tell from her characters how much Rowling loves her own children, you know? Only someone who really gets parenthood could write the way she did. It was beautiful.

Gosh! I'm totally bummed, because I didn't know yesterday -- or Saturday -- that you had finished, too! I could have talked to you about it! 'Cuz I can't yet with D -- he's still reading a refresher of 6 before reading 7! I finished Friday night -- had to, it was just taking up too many late nights, and I need more sleep. I figured one late-LATE night instead of three late nights was the better move. Now, I just have the inveitable sad satisfaction of a well-written book(s) read. I was glad to see how much completeness there was to the series -- and that Rowling did not try to kill true tested formulas of literature but worked within them in refreshing ways.
