My First Skirt!
A couple of weeks ago, I bought this book, Sew What! Skirts: 16 Simple Styles You Can Make with Fabulous Fabrics. It gives you directions for taking your own measurements, plotting hte styles out on the fabric (or making your pattern), and very clear directions for assembling. It gives you the tools to create the style you want. I'm thrilled to find this book!! I've reluctantly acquired a few patterns lately, but I didn't have the motivation to pull them out yet. I hate patterns. They freak me out, and I'm not sure if what I would make would fit right. I love how empowering this book is for someone like me who has yet to sew a successful piece of clothing (until yesterday that is).
This skirt is a simple A-line with an elastic waistband. Very simple. Very easy. It took me one hour flat to make it, which included taking my measurements and ironing the fabric before cutting it out.

Awesome, J'net! You move so fast! But guess what, maybe now I can move fast, too...We're turning our extra room into a "craft" room. Now I get to keep my sewing machine out on the desk (we're taking away the PC, so we'll just have the laptop) and my crafty stuff on the bookshelves (getting new bookshelves for the living room to put the other books on). I'm soooo excited!!

Does Chris think that fabric is like the coolest fabric ever? It's very neat in its boatiness. =) Good job on the skirt-- I can see why you like that book, since it sounds like it encourages the same methods for sewing that you (and I) like to use for cooking!

Yea, I generally hate it when people tell me what to do. :-)

Wow, it looked awesome yesterday... I'm so impressed! You might even inspire me to enter the sewing
circle.

So cute! I love the fabric. You may inspire me to give sewing another try. If, that is, I can remove the hefty layer of dust that is currently covering my machine.

That skirt is great Jeanette! I would love to see that book, because I have a skirt I tried to make without a pattern, well it didn't go so well. Skirts are great fun for summer. Maybe I'll see if our library has it. Man I wish I had more time to sew!
