goblins in my room

Last night I heard Ellis fussing. As I was lying in bed wondering if he was just crying out in his sleep or if he was really crying and needing comforting, all of a sudden, I heard the door! and the *pad, pad, pad* Ellis walking into our room!!!!!! I bolted up in bed, and yelled, "CHRIS! he got out of bed!!!!" I don't know how. But that child had climbed out of his crib. I don't think he fell, because I didn't hear any thuds or cries. I think he just climbed right on out. Guess I'll leave the side down now...

UPDATE: I think I know how he got out now. Today I watched him climb down from the changing table. (And then applaud his great feat!) It would be pretty easy to climb onto the changing table from the crib, so that is probably how he did it. Come to think of it, it's a wonder that it took him this long to figure it out.

I remember when I used to Nanny for Anderson and he did that to me. It scared the &*##&*( out of me. I put him down for his nap and went back into the livingroom to unwind from the day and not 15 minutes later I heard the door open and out he came. Kids are crazy...sure keep you on your toes.

everyone told us "oh, when she learns to walk, your life will change..she'll be into everything and hard to keep track of" but we didn't really find that at all. It was when she learned to get out of bed on her own. lordy. yikes. help. make sure he can't get out the front door!

just like his mom, the climbing wonder

No offense, Jeannette, but that cracks me up. Kids are a wonder!

omigosh -- that would've scared the CRAP out of me!! as a non-parent, that's one of those "firsts" i've never thought about!

Wow. Really makes you want to install a camera to find out how he did it, doesn't it? I'm glad he wasn't hurt, and I hope he knows what to do with his newfound freedom! =)

Don't be mad; I almost fell off my chair laughing at the picture of you sitting up in bed realizing E was in the room. Welcome to my world! Both Drew and Madeline started doing that waaaaaaaaaaay to early. We put a bolt up high on the front door, just in case.

Fuller knows how to climb out of bed, but he doesn't do it that often. But when he does, he has no idea how to get his door open.

At 19 months L. started leaning over the side of her crib and falling out. She did it over and over--in one night. Then it would happen again other nights. Finally, we just put her in a twin bed that was on the floor. No more crib for her!

Someone mentioned to me that the "rule of thumb" for moving out of the crib is when you child reaches 35 inches.

I see Becki got the CRAP scared out of her. Is that what Austina was trying to spell???? Celeste has a video of the morning ritual of getting the twins out of bed. Laura would get Annie under the arms and pull till they both toppled on to the floor!
