Starbucks and Aldo

Currently pondering how much the Starbucks logo and the Aldine mermaid/siren thingy look alike. Coincidence? Subliminal message?

oh man, I always knew the starbucks logo was a reference to some archaric mythological form, but I didn't know it was practically pulled straight off the page of an ancient manuscript. that's really cool, is there a story behind the picture?

I took the picture of the book yesterday when looking at a 1536 printed book from the shop of Aldo Manuzio, a famous early 16th c. printer. I think the mermaid/siren thingy is a "logo" from his print shop...it showed up a few times in the book I was looking at. (An anchor is also a "logo" in another book of his that I looked at.) Beyond that, I have no clue. It would be cool to find out. I smell a SIP topic.

Trippy. This is a special thing that only someone with the right combination of caffeine addiction and scholarly knowledge could find. =)

I read about that here:
