Excuse me if I seem stupider
You see, I coughed my brains out this weekend.
It all started last Monday, a week ago today, I came home with a fever, which lasted two days. Then I began to feel a little better until Thursday night when I taught for 2 hours straight, which irritated my throat to such a large extent that I had a sore throat and laryngitis! I croaked my way through Friday, could barely make a sound on Saturday, and croaking turned to deep-chested, uncontrollable, interminable coughing all day yesterday. I am home again today, managing to go as long as twenty minutes without coughing! Woohooo! But my whole chest is so sore. And I really feel like I coughed my brains out. I feel tired and loopy from so much coughing. A steady dose of vitamin C and sleeping seems to be doing the trick.

Hey Jeannette,
Try lemon herbal tea. Do you have Safeway grocery store there in NOLA? I really like their store-brand lemon tisane. Drink it as hot as possible, with honey. That helps me with rough-throat when my voice box is tired from teaching.
And take tons and tons of vitamin C. Don't handle student papers while doing anything around your mouth (eating, playing with a lollipop, chewing on your pen, etc.). Wash hands frequently, or use Germ-X. And sleep.
Those are my hints as a teacher for recovery and prevention. Oh! Also, take drugs. Take a decongestant to reduce the amount of phlegm in your lungs or take an expectorant to make the phlegm looser and easier to cough up. Drink lots and lots of water to help loosen your cough. And use Vicks MenthLyptus rub on your chest. I swear by it.

I have been drinking organic Triple Echinacea tea, and that's soothing. And Hall's Vitamin C drops are my fave. I'm starting to feel better. Believe me, I taken enough vit C to equal an orange grove. :-) Thanks for the comfort.

For me, a shot of liquor does the trick. If, however, the sickness reaches the lungs, I agree that menthol effervescence (or something similar) works best. Drink warm liquids, and stay away from dairy. =D
