reporting from the mountain

Driving up the mountain on Thursday evening was so glorious. The evening, freshened by rain showers, was cool and green. Grace came Friday, Joanna came Saturday morning. For the first time in three years the Josquin Club is reunited. It's lovely to see people again. The mountain is so cool and nice. My mind is being refreshed. I've spent some time in the library working on my paper and in Dr. Steele's office perusing his Josquin stash, but mostly I've been hanging out with Grace and Joanna. I can't bear the thought of going back to school in two weeks. I'm still tired. And I still have SO much work to do yet. Aaaugh! Cov and the mountain and Chattanooga are so familiar, but for the first time since I left, I'm glad I don't live here. Chattanooga is so small and almost fake feeling. It doesn't all hang out like New Orleans does. The messy parts of Chatty are shoved under the carpet and sequestered off. In NOLA all the good parts and the bad parts and the messy parts and pretty parts are all mixed together into one colorful mélange.

That was the main thing I noticed about New Orleans: one side of the road might be super-ritzy while the stores accross the street are filthy. I can't think of any other city (big or small) that has such a stark contrast.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.
