quiet on the blog

Life has been interesting as of late. It's hard to believe that February has almost officially come and gone. I can't quite grasp the fact that we are more than a third of the way through the Spring semester. In fact midterm grades are due to the registrars office on March 3rd. And if you've heard from me lately you know that I am now a stand in professor for Latin American History here at my little college in rural GA. It's a rather long story, if you want the details email me.

All that to say my time is not so free anymore. I feel pretty overwhelmed by the notion that I'm now responsible for effectively conveying the historical significance of a region that is oft misunderstood in our world. I feel inadequate to the task, but feelings aside I really think I'll be okay.

In other venues of my life I continue to marinate in patience. Trying to grasp what it means and how it works itself out practically in my life on a day to day basis. It's proving to be more taxing that I ever could have imagined, but I continue to be humbled by the many ways that God continues to extend grace to me through my friends and family. Regardless of the outcome God has been teaching me many things and for those experiences and ponderings I'm thankful!

This morning turning the corner to my street after my morning walk I saw three very large deer dash across 29. It was a sight! Glad they didn't damage any on coming cars. Very neat.

Oh and last week when the lunar eclipse graced the sky, my goodness was I overwhelmed with gratefulness for my current residence. I sat in the yard wrapped in a blanket, drinking coffee and just soaking the moon in with hardly any light pollution it was AMAZING!!

It is entirely too late and I need to be in bed, like 40 minutes ago.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

round two

Where I'll be June 29th-July 3rd.

I spent the week between Christmas and New Years in Biloxi, MS doing clean up Post Katrina in 2005. I made a quick decision in church on Sunday to go with a group from Faith Presbyterian to do construction work for 4 days. It will be the first week of my official month off. It should be an adventure. I am curious to see what things look like almost 3 years later.

soundbyte

This soundbyte is in the latest edition of Newsweek.

"Hillary's gonna be our girl...I would campaign for her if McCain is the nominee." Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter, adding that she would back Clinton over John McCain in a fall election because Clinton is "more conservative."

babies babies everywhere

Two of my favorite things!

These two little ones are a delight for me to know. I've probably said this before but it has been an honor to see them grown and change every week. It count it one of the greatest blessings of my transition to NE GA that I've been able to grow my friendship with the lovely parents of these little ones. God surely knew what he was doing when he designed our paths to cross from the north to the south. I am grateful for the Smolko clan and the continued grace and hospitality that they extend me!

weight loss journey

If you know anything about me you probably know that I've been working on losing weight for over 2 years now. It has been a journey. I've found that it is difficult to lose weight and stay on my weight watchers program in the midst of transition and change. But enough is enough no more excuses. It is coming off baby. At last count I have 23.4lbs to lose and my goal/hope is to reach that goal by June 29th. Which by the way is my 29th birthday. And I've also got this lofty goal to run the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th. Goodness! We shall see how it all unfolds.

This week on the scale I lost 2lbs. Which is the most I've lost in one week in months. For the most part I've been losing and gaining the same 10lbs for like 6 months now. But I had a good heart to heart with myself the other day and look forward to being able to add the third and final picture to my weightloss photo line up. Check out the difference here. When I look at that infamous picture from February of 2006 I can hardly believe that's me. Wow! What a difference 30lbs and a new hair cut makes!!

I hope to be good about posting each week if anything to remind myself of the progress and that losing 60lbs takes time.

oh my!

This is where I'll be this time next week.

Although Jubilee 2008 doesn't actually start until 8pm on Friday. I arrive in Pittsburgh late Wednesday night so I can help with some of the prep on Thursday and Friday. I can't tell you how very excited I am to be with my CCO peeps! Good times are ahead! And it will be nice to be in Pittsburgh again.
