My friend Jack
I spent today with my blosser buddies. I got to hold Ella while her Momma washed the dishes & talked to an old friend. I read with Sam. And after lunch I took Jack to his last pottery class. He glazed 5 monsters, one bowl & a good rattle. It was a fun day. Now off to the movies with one of my students.
btw...this photo was taken with my new camera phone. Too much fun!

what's with the fish
Celebration Day is a tradition for CCO-New Staff Training. It always happens the day before we move out. For the 2nd year in a row we went to Debbie's house and had a great BBQ pool party. But the best part were the games...a diving contest, slippery watermelon battle, swim race, wet tp & fishing for goldfish. I signed up for the goldfish event...mainly because it was the only one with one participants by the time I got there. Well it entailed 3 rounds of fishing for goldfish with my hand, putting it my mouth and then transfering it to a cup with water. The first two rounds I got 2 fish, the last round I caught 3. So that means I had 7 fish in my mouth. At one point I was so in to the game that I forgot there was a fish in my mouth. Not to worry I didn't swallow it. It was a fun game, not sure I'd do it again, but certainly a first for me.

when things end
I'm back home in Columbus now. Summer Training ended yesterday, then I headed to Kent for a friends party, I stayed out too late and drove home this afternoon. Now I'm in the process of unpacking my stuff.
It's alwasy strange when things come to a close. The summer was good. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, cried some, ate good summer eats, celebrated my birthday, went to a Pirates game, make several thousand copies, manged the budget, did a lot of sudoku, played a lot of settlers, learned how to play speed scrabble, learned a little about basketball, even played a few games. I made a lot of new friends, got to know old friends even better and now after 5 weeks of living amongst 40+ people I'm home in my little residence hall apartment.
It was a good summer, restorative and life giving. Back to unpacking.

the summer of taffy
yesterday my summer roommate Kelly & I order 2 lbs of Salt water taffy from this stand in Yarmouth, MA on Cape Cod. I brought a box back from vacation and we have been rationing it all summer. We even had someone bring us some from Ocean City, NJ. We decided though that the Cape Cod stuff is the best, primarily because you can really taste the salt in it. So we called the number of the back of the box and sure enough they ship to other places. So hopefully the box will come before her parents come to visit on Tuesday afternoon.
Yummy Taffy!

it was so hot...
at the Friday Night Pirates Game in Pittsburgh that the babies got to be naked. Lucky! As part of my job this summer I helped to organize a CCO staff & family outing to PNC Park for a Pirates Game. About 100 folks came and had a good time! And the Pirates broke their losing streak!
p.s. These are two future CCO staff members, Owen & William.

in a basket
on Sunday, Kelly & I watched our friends baby. He's a big boy and once he falls asleep he gets really heavy. So because we were at our apartment we didn't have a bed for him. We improvised and put him in a laundry basket. Clever if I so say so myself.

Day at the Lake
Yesterday several of us CCO new staff training support staff had a day outing to Roaming Shores, OH. Kelly"s (our director) parents have a home on a lake there. We went boating for over 4 hours. It was an adventure. I got in the water several times. Everyone tried water skiing except me, not an ounce of interest there. Instead I ventured out on the tube. I was way fun and it takes no athletic ability on my part. The day was a nice change of pace for our training team!
