Now I don't want to give the impression that all I talk about is weather. But honestly! Yesterday we had a high of 70 today it was 60 and now there is a windchill of 25 and it is SNOWING! Thankfully the ground it too warm so it won't stick. And the weatherman predicts a white Thanksgiving. Thank goodness I'll be in sunny FL for Turkey day!
Tonight here in Franklin county and much of Ohio we are under a Tornado watch until midnight. Tomorrow they (the weather people) are forcasting snow or some slushy mix. Seem like a strange prediction after we had a high today of 72. Oh Ohio weather.
Thanks to mrscrumley (my big sis) for helping me do a little renovation with my blog. Hopefully I'll eventually be able to make renovations to the look of my blog.
The photo on the blog is from my weekend roadtrip to NYC. I was going to use it as my Christmas picture, but I didn't really like the way they turned out. I think had it been a clearer day I might have liked the photo more.
As you may or may not know I work at a Catholic University. Well one of the perks of the job is being able to take classes free of cost. My coworker and I decided that it would be interesting to sign up for class together. We wanted to take something in the theology department, for a different perspection. So we signed up for Intro to Sprituality, it's a 100 level course and we are auditing so I don't imagine that it will be too difficult. The irony is that in order for us to take the classes (remember that we only want to audit) is that we have to go to the Admission department and sign up as students. J and I both found this to be rather ironic, we both have master's level education and well it seems like a lot of red tape just to take a course. Oh well. I did't make the rules. But I still have to play by them. I'm sure that the intro to spirtuality course will generate a good bit of writing and reflection on my blog.
Okay time for some Donald Miller and then if I'm still up at 10 a little law & order.
On Saturday my home church of Grace Central here in Columbus had their 2nd annual arts forum and it was fantastic! It was a concert/gallery show. Linford from Over the Rhine was the guest performer and he was fantastic. The show was billed as an evening of words and music with Linford Detweiler. He played a little and in between sections he read from an essay he had published in Image in 2001. The essay was titled "Missionary Training". The combo was amazing and magical. I was talking to Linford and my friend Charity after the show and he said that he wasn't really sure what to do until just before the show, well it was just the right combo.
Our church is fairly new we will be 2 in February 06. I joined the scene in late August early September of 04. And I love it. It really is an amazing community, the love art, music, travelling, food, the Bible and Jesus. We have a fantastic pastor, who is a gifted preacher and well I love that we have an arts forum.
Greg (the pastor) ended the forum by telling a little story about Jack. Jack is his 6 year old son, he shares his birthday with my cool nephew Fuller. Anyhow a few weeks ago at Children's church the teacher was taking prayer requests, most were for mom & dad, Jesus, my sister and the like. You know the sort that little kids have. It comes Jack's turn and he says that he wants to pray for statues. Confused the teacher asks exactly what he means. He states that he wants to pray for more statues. The teacher then asks, why do you want to pray for more statues. Well Jack ernestly replies, "Because I like to look at them!" So Greg ended by saying that we have an art forum because we like art and more importantly God likes art.
I especially like that the ladies in my congregation like to take road trips. 2 weekends ago 7 of us ladies loaded up a car and headed east to the Big Apple. We were visiting a fellow church member who is working in NYC for the year. It was fantastic! My feet hurt and I was tired on Monday, but it was a great way to get to know those ladies and make some memories.
It's November 14th and by this time of the year I'm wearing my winter coat or several layers to keep warm and dry. But not this year, current temp outside is 55 and on Wednesday the temp is supposed to get to a scorching 73. What is going on? I am so confused. People keep saying how cool this warm weather is, but it's a bit strange if you ask me. It's Fall it should be coo and on the verge of very cold. Global warming anyone. I'm no scientist, but this is strange times.
I just wrapped up my Orientation class for the semester. Because it was a night class it was pretty small, only 8 students. They were a good bunch, all turned in assignments for the most part and interacted in class discussion. I felt bad for them last week because the Uni Prez was in attendance to lead the class discussion. We are the only night class so it was us and him, the other sections combined for large groups of 40-50. It was a super akward class, it only lasted 30 of the 50 minutes. I imagine for first year students that hanging out with prez might feel a little overwhelming. Not to toot my own horn but when I was a Freshman I was super excited that I got into Frank Brock's Wednesday small group, I think I was only 1 of 2 maybe three freshman. As soon as I signed up I realized I was in another world, it was full of upperclassmen, although I do have to say that I love to network and well it was fun to hang out in his office each week. Rob Peck was the leader when ever Pres Brock was out of town.
I enjoyed teaching this semester it's my 3 college class that I've taught. Hopefully I'll get assigned one of the orientation classes for the spring, but they only have 2 sections. I'll just have to wait and see.
